Hans Wilsdorf was born in 1881 in Bavaria (Germany). The son of a successful, middle-class family of iron mongers. At age 12, circumstances, made young Hans an orphan. So where did the name ROLEX actually come from? The simple explanation for what we have been informed
is that, Hans Wilsdor wanted to reach as many people as possible with a eye catching name. The rolex image you see above was not always how the most recognised name and crown started out. Hans Wilsdorf, it is told went through through every combination possible with the letters of the alphabet, but nothing seemed to grab his attention. That was until he was sitting on the upper deck of a horse drawn omnibus in the city of London, when a whisper of "Rolex" sounded within his ear.
